In 2015 Sarah was performing a jazz lounge session in Dungarvan where Ria joined in for a few songs..they hit it off immediately and decided to form a duo together.
Coming up with the band name was quite a challenge and we kept coming up with some very ‘interesting’ names to say the least! They eventually fell upon the idea of Indigo Mood after looking at some of their favourite song titles..Mood Indigo by the great Duke Ellington being one of them!
Ria Hymas (alto sax) comes from a family of musicians and grew up listening to jazz. She played in a function band in the UK for 3 years in the late 90s but put her sax away for 16 years when she moved to Ireland. Encouraged to play again by local musician Pat Ormond, in early 2015 she joined Dixieland jazz band Deise Brass and hasn’t looked back.
Sarah (vocals) has gained much experience singing and dancing professionally with many different bands and shows over the past 30 years and feels she has finally found her perfect musical partner… “We just seem to gel without even trying!”
They have been working non stop since forming, including Tramore Racing Festival 2016, 2017, West Waterford Food Festival, Residency in Nagles Bar and Lawlors Hotel, Flahavans Party, Chambers of Commerce Summer Party, Tig an Cheol to name a few, and had the pleasure of performing at ‘Cantys Bar’ at the 2016 Cork Jazz Festival.
Indigo Mood covers many aspects of jazz and Ria and Sarah are experienced entertainers whose love of jazz, blues and soul shines through in their performances.
“We may be small but we are powerful, fun and sophisticated!”
